IML 2010 Expo Series

Intermountain Lock & Security ended its 2010 Expo season with a bang in Las Vegas this past November.  They hosted a party that included local security professionals, as well as those that travelled across the country and even from as far as Canada.

The three-day event included two days of classes including Breaking & Entering (legally of course), Automotive update, Stand Alone Access Control, and Marketing classes for mobile operators and shop owners.  The Nov. 11 IML Expo offered the business owners and technicians an opportunity to get one-on-one attention from the more than 75 manufacturers, take advantage of Blockbuster Deals and many walked away with great door prizes.  The highlight of IML Expo is always the food, and Las Vegas was certainly no exception.  “The shrimp cocktail was my favorite!” stated one attendee.

IML hosts five Expos throughout the year.  2011 IML Expo dates – Feb. 11 in Phoenix, March 19 in Los Angeles, June 24 in Denver, Sept. 23 in Salt Lake City and Nov. 10 in Las Vegas.  Get more details at www.imlss.com.

The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) has elected a new president and a slate of new officers for 2011.

Don Baker, vice president of engineering for the Americas for Ingersoll Rand, will succeed Scott Duncan, CEO and president of DORMA Architectural Hardware, as president of the association.

The other officers that make up the new 2011 BHMA Board of Directors are:

  • 1st Vice President -Sandy Johnson, Stanley Security Solutions
  • 2nd Vice President - Scott James, CompX International, Inc.
  • 3rd Vice President - Dan Picard, Sargent Manufacturing Company
  • Immediate Past President – Scott Duncan, DORMA Architectural Hardware

“The ongoing success of BHMA’s industry standards and codes initiatives - and each program that supports them - emanate from the strategies-driven direction of the BHMA Exective Committee,” said Ralph Vasami, the executive director for BHMA. “BHMA appreciates Scott Duncan’s innumerable contributions while president and in the many other leadership roles he’s held.  Don and the entire board look forward to another challenging and productive year.”

Baker started working with the standards subcommittees of BHMA in the early 1990s serving to develop some of the early electromechanical hardware standards.  Through the years, he has also participated in standard revisions subcommittees from finishes to exit devices.  Baker joined the executive board of BHMA in 2008.

BHMA is the only organization accredited by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) to develop and maintain performance standards for locks, closers, exit devices and other builders hardware. The widely known ANSI/BHMA A156 series of standards describes and establishes the features and criteria for specific types of hardware products. In addition, BHMA sponsors third-party certification of hardware products, which is a requirement for a product to bear the “BHMA Certified” mark — insuring that the product meets the ANSI/BHMA standard.
