The smaller the electric strike body, the less modification required for the installation. Less modification to the frame means less time required. Less time means a potentially higher profit margin.
When discussing small electric strike bodies, the Trine Axion 3000 Series hits the mark. Trine’s 3000 Series is compac,t measuring just 1-11/16" tall by 1-1/32" wide by 7/8" deep.
Even with this diminutive size, these Trine electric strike bodies are designed with full feature capabilities. The Trine Axion 3000 Series Grade 1 electric strikes meet BHMA standards A156.31, 2001, when equipped with the Trine 234, 258, 458 or 478 series of face plates. According to Trine, the 3000 Series Grade 1 Electric Strikes have a 1,500+ pound holding force, and a Dynamic Force of 70ft/lbs. The locking mechanism and the latch are manufactured from solid stainless steel. They can accommodate a 5/8" throw latch bolt (based on a 1/8" door gap).
For most installations, no modification is required to the frame to accommodate the electric strike body. As an example, the Trine Axion 3000 Series Electric Strikes are so small that they can be installed into a standard 'T' strike cutout, which is 1-1/8" wide by 2-3/4" tall.
Four configurations are available for the 3000 Series Electric Strikes. They are the 12 or 24VDC Fail Secure (intermittent duty); the 12-24VAC/DC Fail Secure (Continuous duty); and the 12-24VAC/DC Fail Safe (Continuous duty) electric strikes. Continuous duty strikes are supplied with a LC100 module. The 12 through 24-volt electric strikes can be operated using Alternating Current or Direct Current.
The Line Conditioner (LC100) Module regulates the input voltages, conditions the output DC voltage and reduces the holding voltage by minimizing the current required. This reduces the heat expended from the solenoid, extending the operational life of the electric strike. According to Trine, when using a 24-volt DC power supply, the pull in amperage is .397A, where the hold amperage is .170A; more than double the hold amperage.
Ten faceplates are available for the 3000 Series Electric Strikes. Each faceplate is designed for a specific application. Half of the Trine faceplates have full lip extensions that curve around and cover the outer edge of the casing or frame. These faceplate designs can conceal many installation imperfections.
The 234 faceplate is designed for a 'T' strike, 2-3/4" by 1-1/8" applications in hollow metal frames. This non-handed faceplate has a 1/4" lip, large enough to extend beyond the frame. The lip requires a cutout depth of 1/2" and a width of 5/8î.
The 258 faceplate is designed for use on aluminum glass storefront frames prepped for Adams Rite® style dead latch locks. It replaces the AR 4502 style strike plate with minimal modification. The Trine 258 faceplate is non-handed. For installing an electric strike to accommodate the Adams Rite style ìTall" 4501 strike preps, the 458 faceplate does so with minimal frame modification.
The non-handed Trine 334 faceplate accommodates wood frames. The faceplate is 3-3/4" by 1-1/4". The frame must be mortised one inch deep to accommodate the electric strike body.
For ASA strike plate conversion to an electric strike, the Trine 478 faceplate has an extended lip and wrap-around to ensure a clean installation. Its newest feature is a 1/8" horizontal adjustment. This way the electric strike body can be adjusted to eliminate the pre-load condition, which makes it difficult to electronically release the latch bolt when it is pressed against the electric strike.
Two additional special function 478 faceplates are available, the 478LO and the 478RO. These handed faceplates are designed to accommodate for settling, where the lock edge of the frame is no longer in alignment with the latch bolt. The 478LO/RO strike opening in the faceplate is offset by 3/16" to accommodate door sag.
To accommodate 'T' strike equipped Timely and Redi-Frames, Trine developed the 234X-375 faceplate. This faceplate lip is 3/8" longer than the 234 faceplate, large enough to extend beyond the casing of Timely and Redi-Frames. The faceplate lip requires a cutout depth of 1/2" and a width of 5/8". In addition to light gauge steel, the 234X-375 faceplate can be used on 'T' Strike-equipped wooden frames. The 234X-375 faceplate is non-handed.
For 'ASA' strike plate equipped Timely and Redi-Frames, Trine developed the 478X-375 faceplate. This faceplate lip is 3/8" longer than the 478 faceplate and provides the same features mentioned above. The 478X-375 faceplate is non-handed.
NOTE: The 478 and 478LO/RO faceplates are available with radiused corners as an option.
Purchasing a Trine Axion 3000 Series electric strike requires making three choices. The first is determined by the operation of the strike: Power unlock/Fail Secure or Power lock/Fail Safe. A Fail Secure electric strike requires power to release the latch bolt in order to gain access. A Fail Secure electric strike remains locked without power. This type of operation can be satisfied with an intermittent duty solenoid.
A Fail Safe electric strike requires power to remain locked. Loss of power unlocks the latch bolt, permitting access. A Fail Safe electric strike requires power to remain locked. This type of operation requires a continuous duty solenoid.
Once the electric strike application has been determined, the next step is to determine if the end user requires a notifier. DC electric strikes are silent when powered. AC powered electric strikes chatter when powered. If your customer's electric strike will be DC, they may want a noise-maker to notify the person at the door.
Trine offers three types of Piezo audible buzzers for the DC powered electric strikes. The Piezo buzzers are available in 6, 12 and 24 volts. The six-volt buzzers are designed for Trine Axion 3000 Series electric strikes incorporating the line conditioner.
The third step to ordering a Trine Axion 3000 Series Electric Strike is to choose the faceplate. From the above, determine which faceplate meets the requirements of door. The faceplates are available in a variety of finishes. Two of them are handed.
