Norton 6000 Series Door Operator
Norton has introduced the 6000 Series electro-hydraulic low energy door operator for medium to high traffic applications. An electro-hydraulic door operator has a built-in door closer mechanism that closes the door if power is removed from the unit while the door is in an open position. This operation is required if the operator is installed onto a fire rated opening. The 6000 Series has a clutching mechanism that permits the operator to function as door closer.
Features of the Norton 6000 Series Door Operator include Push and Go, obstruction detection, vestibule delay, motor start delay, hold open delay and a presence detector input.
The 120VAC power requirement provides an auxiliary output of 24VDC @1.3A.
This new door operator has an LCD screen that displays the operator settings. It is non-handed and can be installed on the push or pull side of the door.

Using Your Fingers
Have you ever needed to remove a screw or bolt that you cannot see? Place your fingerprint area of your finger over the screw and press against the head for about 20 seconds. The pressure will create a pattern of the shape. Look at your finger and determine if the tool required is a Phillips head, straight slot, Torx or any high security. For small bolts, the shape created can help determine the size.

Car Opening Techniques:1996+ Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana
This month we will offer car-opening tool manufacturer's recommended techniques for opening the 1996 and newer Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full size vans. Different method for opening these vans are provided by the car-opening tool manufacturers.
These vehicles are equipped with multi-layer weather stripping at the trim panel. Use liquid dish soap to lubricate the weather stripping before inserting a tool. Dish soap will dissipate with water, where a lubricant can stain the door trim panel or the surrounding area.
Note: Some of these vans have barricades behind the front seats. Find out where the keys are. Occasionally the keys will be locked in the rear of the van, especially if the child safety is activated.
The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 1996 and newer Chevrolet Express and GMC Savana full size vans:
Use the High Tech Tools Downward Hook 91 Tool to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Insert a wedge just forward of the outside door handle. Insert the 91 Tool through the opening created along the center of the weather stripping. Lower the tool into the door cavity just below and to the rear of the inside door release. Slide the tool into the opening in the doorframe and contact the lower diagonal linkage rod Trap the linkage rod in the hook of the car-opening tool, bind and manipulate forward to unlock the door locking mechanism.
Use the Pro-Lok AO-38 “Honda Tool” car-opening tool, inspection light and a wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge 13 inches from the rear edge of the glass. Insert the "small hook" end of the AO-38 tool nine inches from the rear edge of the window with the tip facing forward. Lower the tool 14 inches. Rotate the tip of the tool 90 degrees counterclockwise. Lift the tip of the tool up under the lower horizontal linkage at the diagonal. Capture the rod within the tip. Bind and slide the tool forward to unlock the door locking mechanism.
Use the Slide Lock Frameless Window Tool™ car-opening tool, a wedge and an inflatable wedge to unlock the front passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge along the upper portion of the doorframe to relieve gasket pressure. Insert the inflatable wedge along the center of the forward edge of the door. Inflate the wedge. Slide the Frameless Window Tool into the passenger compartment above the wedge. Slide the tool in carefully to avoid the coupler damaging the car’s finish. Manipulate the tool over the inside door handle. Pull back on the handle to unlock the door locking mechanism. Open the door using the outside handle.
Use the Steck Manufacturing BigEasy “Glo” and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the wedge or inflatable wedge into the top corner of the door. Once the door has been wedged out, insert the BigEasy tool into the passenger compartment. Manipulate the tool to position the 90-degree bend tip behind the inside door handle. Pull on the tool to unlock the door locking mechanism. Pull on the handle a second time to open the door.
The Tech-Train Productions method is to remove the light that is mounted directly above the license plate in the rear cargo door. Use a 7 or 8MM socket. The horizontal linage rod is directly above the light. On 1996-97 models, you can use your finger to unlock the bell crank. On the 1998 models, General Motors installed a sheet metal guard. The linkage end can still be accessed using a finger; however, it may be easier to use a TT-1000 car-opening tool to push the base of the bell crank to your right. In 2003, GM installed a plastic shield. Use the TT-1006 car-opening tool to unlock the rear cargo door.
The direction to rotate the door lock plug to the unlocked position is clockwise for 1996-2002. For 2003 and up, the driver's door lock rotation is counterclockwise.
