NEW YORK, NY (March 21, 2013) - The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) today announced three new revisions to the ANSI/BHMA Standards. The industry standards, approved by ANSI (American National Standards Institute), are:
- A156.1 Butts and Hinges
- A156.12 Interconnected Locks and Latches
- A156.14 Sliding and Folding Hardware
“BHMA rolled out three revised publications in the last quarter of 2012 as the standards completed their revision cycle,” said BHMA Executive Director, Ralph Vasami. “Publishing a revised standard for the industry translates into enhancements to each product’s engineering and design. Raising the bar for hardware performance and product life can directly impact the safety and security of the facility – especially the people that occupy it.”
ANSI/BHMA Standard A156.1 adds requirements for light weight hinges and clarifies the definition of barrel hinges, as well as providing an evaluation of adjustable hinges.
ANSI/BHMA Standard A156.12 eliminates Cass testing, updates UV test criteria, and provides a new test for the operation of a deadbolt by cylinder.
ANSI/BHMA Standard A156.14 adds force gages to the list of equipment and sets additional requirements for heavier folding doors used on residential patios and light commercial applications.
