Big Doings in Indianapolis for dormakaba

Company consolidates all door-hardware operations after massive headquarters expansion

dormakaba has big plans for its door operations in the United States, and that resulted in a major expansion of its Americas headquarters in Indianapolis.

Moving all door-hardware production to its Indianapolis facility required an additional 200,000 square feet, an expansion of 60 percent, dormakaba says. The increase brought the total size of the building to more than 500,000 square feet — about 10 football fields in size. Further, the expansion is expected to result in the hire of 100 employees at the facility as dormakaba seeks to bolster its quality standards, product lead times and supply-chain management.

The expansion was completed in fall 2019, and Locksmith Ledger got to tour the facility over the winter.

“This is part of a plan to create a total group picture for all brands,” says Joe Hudock, senior vice president of marketing for dormakaba Americas. The security and access control solutions company says it seeks growth and investment in all technologies, from mechanical to multihousing.

Many new products are expected in 2020 as a result of the expansion, with further information on those products to come throughout the year.

“We’re looking at creating solutions and programs for vertical markets, rather than just products,” Hudock adds.
