NEW YORK, NY (September 15, 2014) – The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) will hold its annual Fall Technical Committee Week October 14th to 16th in Scottsdale, AZ at the JW Marriott Camelback Inn Resort & Spa.
The BHMA Standards Steering Committee will meet to move ahead with updates to the following standards:
- ANSI/BHMA A156.8 Overhead Stops & Holders
- ANSI/BHMA A156.15 Release Devices
- ANSI/BHMA A156.10 Power Operated Pedestrian Doors
- ANSI/BHMA A156.23 Electromagnetic Locks
- ANSI/BHMA A156.36 Auxiliary Locks
ANSI/BHMA A156.37 for Multipoint Locks, a new commercial standard, establishing performance requirements for locks engaging the door frame with bolts, latches or other fastening devices at two or more locations, was recently approved by ANSI. ANSI/BHMA A156.3, the standard addressing exit devices and trim, automatic and self-latching flush bolts, removable mullions, coordinators and carry-open bars was updated by BHMA’s technical committee and was approved by ANSI in June 2014.
“BHMA’s standards evolve with changing technologies and industry demands. When there is a need, our organization is triggered to develop an entirely new standard for a new or existing category of products,” said Ralph Vasami, BHMA’s Executive Director. “We’ve set an ambitious schedule for this year’s Fall Technical Committee Week to move forward on all of BHMA’s programs.”
BHMA will conduct strategic sessions including a review of this year’s rollout of the North American Product Category Rules (PCR) for conducting Life Cycle Assessments for developing an Environmental Product Declaration (EPD) for builder’s hardware products. BHMA’s Codes and Government Affairs Committee will report to manufacturers on its activities within the codes arena to enhance life safety and security through its support of and collaboration with various regulatory bodies and stakeholder.
