The lock’s Piezo technology includes no moving parts, so there is nothing to break or wear out. Another advantage is Piezo technology requires minimal power consumption.
The Codelocks CL5000 Series single-door electro-mechanical door lock uses a unique method for controlling the unlocking mechanism: a Piezo crystal. A Piezo crystal can provide a determined reaction. When put under a minute amount of pressure, a Piezo crystal generates a small amount of electrical power. For this reason, Piezo crystalline material has been used as a component of keypad key technology. When provided with a small amount of electrical power, a Piezo crystal expands slightly. This ability to expand enables a Piezo crystal to be used to efficiently operate the Codelocks CL5000 Series Electronic Locks.
To operate as the activating component in the unlocking mechanism, a Piezo crystal is positioned within the actuator that controls the operation of the outside door handle. At rest, the outside lever will turn without being able to retract the latch bolt. When a correct code is entered into the keypad, an electrical charge causes the Piezo crystal to expand slightly. The expanding crystal moves a metal block into position, causing the plunger within the actuator to become rigid. When the outside lever is depressed, this rigid plunger rotates within its carrier, driving the spindle and retracting the latch bolt.
When the Piezo crystal is not powered, the plunger loses its rigidity and is free to move in and out of the actuator. In this condition, if the outside lever is pressed, the non-rigid plunger moves out of the way, unable to engage the spindle, which in turn cannot retract the latch bolt.
The use of the Piezo crystal provided a clutching mechanism for the outside lever. If the Piezo is not powered, the rotating the outside lever will not retract the latch bolt, no matter how much force is exerted.
An advantage of using Piezo technology includes no moving parts, so there is nothing to break or wear out. Another advantage is Piezo technology requires minimal power consumption. According to Codelocks, Piezo technology cycle requires one-sixth the amount of power consumed by a forward and reversing cycle motor using five volts. It requires 1/66th the amount of power consumed by a continuous duty solenoid using five volts. As a result, the Codelocks CL5000 Series lock is capable of more than 500,000 operations from four 1.5 Volt AA Energizer brand Ultra batteries.
The UL Listed Codelocks CL5000 Series are keypad-operated electro-mechanical locks. They are equipped with a 12-button telephone style keypad and blue and red LEDs. These locks have non-volatile memory that maintains the settings even if the batteries are removed or lose power. The lock housings and levers are manufactured of a zinc alloy. The CL5000 Series lever sets are non-handed, having reversible levers.
PROGRAMMING
The CL5000 Series locks are programmed using a four-, five- or six-digit Master Code. Length of the Master Code determines the length of the User Codes. Up to 90 User Codes and a One-Time User Code can be programmed to operate these locks. The One-Time User Code will operate only once and then be removed from memory. An identification number 01 to 90 identifies the User Codes. Once the proper operating code has been entered, the default unlock time is four seconds. Note: The unlock time can be set from two to nine seconds.
Programming and electro-mechanical access is accomplished through the keypad. Programming hierarchy is Master Code and User Codes. The Master Code is required in order to program the lock. Programming options include the ability to add, remove, restore, and suspend one or all User Codes. The Master Code can also electronically set the lock into or out of “Code Fee” mode for unrestricted access. To enter the Master Code, first, press the “#” key, then enter the four to six digits of the code. The Master Code also provides direct access to the lock.
The length of the Master Code determines the length of the User Codes. The User Codes contain only numbers. Note: Changing the length of the Master Code erases all of the User Codes.
When programming, the blue LED will illuminate, indicating the code or program has been accepted. The red LED will illuminate when the code has been rejected. The blue and red LEDs will illuminate at the same time when the User Code is valid but has been suspended.
The following are programming instructions.
New User Code (01): Enter the Master Code > 01 > User Code ID > User Code
After the Master Code has been entered, the blue LED will illuminate briefly and two beeps will sound. After the program choice (01) is entered, the blue LED will illuminate briefly and two beeps will sound. After the new User Code has been entered, the blue LED will illuminate briefly and two beeps will sound. The final blue LED and beeps indicate the new User Code has been programmed into memory.
Suspend User Code (02): Enter the Master Code > 02 > User Code ID
Restore User Code (03): Enter the Master Code > 03 > User Code ID
Suspend All User Codes (04): Enter the Master Code > 04
Restore All User Codes (05): Enter the Master Code > 05
Set Unlock Time (06): Enter the Master Code > 06 > enter open time (2-9 seconds)
New One-Time User Code (07): Enter the Master Code > 07 > enter one time User Code
Set Code-Free Mode (08): Enter the Master Code > 08
Cancel Code-Free Mode (09): Enter the Master Code > 09
Change Master Code (10): Enter the Master Code > 10 > enter length of Master Code followed by new Master Code (for example 6123456) > confirm length of Master Code followed by New Master Code
Cancel Emergency Open Mode (11): Enter the Master Code > 11
Delete All User Codes (12): Enter the Master Code > 12 > 12
For remote access, the Codelocks 5000 has two sets of terminals. One terminal, REM 1, provides hardwired access using a momentary release pushbutton. The other terminal, REM 2, can be wired into a fire alarm system to provide emergency access. When energized, Terminal REM2 will enter the unlocked condition for 30 minutes. During this period, the red LED in the exterior assembly will flash and beep. After the 30 minutes, the lock will revert to the locked condition. The emergency unlock condition can be canceled by Master Code plus a command any time during the 30-minute time period.
The Codelocks CL5000 Series electro-mechanical locks are equipped with a six-pin tumbler “C” keyway lock cylinder in the exterior lever. The lock cylinder provides two functions -- emergency override and the ability to mechanically change the mode of operation between passage and controlled access. The standard screw cap key-in-knob cylinder is easily removed for use of alternate keyways and allows the use of one of two included tail pieces, which provide storeroom (default) or classroom key bypass functions.
The Codelocks CL5000 locks are available in two basic configurations, the CL5010 and the CL5050. The CL5010 cylindrical locks are equipped with a tubular dead latch. The CL5050 is configured as a mortise lock. Both of these lock types are designed for 1-3/4” thick doors. The cylindrical lock is designed for a backset of 2-3/8” or 2-3/4”.
Note: The Codelocks CL5010 and CL5050 are available in back-to-back versions for code entry and code exit.
The Codelocks CL5000 Series are available in stainless steel, polished brass, and black chrome Physical Vapor Deposition finishes. The Physical Vapor Deposition finish coating provides protection against wear, tear, and the environment.
Codelocks recommends replacing the four AA batteries every year. To maintain operation, the CL5000 Series has a low battery warning. The warning occurs after a code is entered. The red LED will flash five times before blue LED signals the code has been accepted and access can be gained.
Codelocks CL5000 Series have a limited lifetime warranty.
