Paige DataCom Solutions has released the first all-in-one cable designed specifically to support the Open Supervised Device Protocol (OSDP), a standard developed by the Security Industry Association (SIA) to improve security and interoperability among access control and security products.
Paige’s new cable for OSDP is a composite construction that provides four plenum-rated components together in a single jacket. When using OSDP, access control readers have to have only two low-capacitance pairs compared with the six to 12+ conductors typically used in legacy systems that use the Wiegand protocol.
OSDP significantly improves security by enabling continuous monitoring that would identify failed, missing, malfunctioning or tampered readers. It also supports AES-128 encryption, preventing hackers from intercepting data transfers or spoofing a card read, a capability required in U.S. Federal Government applications.
OSDP also delivers advanced functionality, improved ease of use and greater interoperability, including the support for smart-card technologies, advanced user interfaces, and the remote configuration and upgrade of readers.
The OSDP Access Control Composite Cable is available through major security distributors.
