What’s New with S&G?

As well-informed locksmiths, you know Sargent and Greenleaf from more than 150 years providing high-security locking solutions to the world’s most sensitive environments:  from bank vaults to railroad switching devices; from the network-connected locks of retail chains to the One-Time-Code locks of ATMs, and even to your neighbor’s gun safe, S&G continues to deliver quality, service, and functionality with each product.  But, how much do you know about S&G’s proud history of securing US government’s most critical assets and the new ways S&G is building on that tradition?

A Heritage of Trust with National Security Information (NSI)

S&G’s high-security expertise dates back to the U.S. Treasury’s adoption of James Sargent’s Magnetic Bank Lock circa 1860.  In the mid-1900’s, president Harry Miller’s patent for a manipulation-proof mechanical combination lock M6730MP became the standard for government’s top secret document safes.  Over the years, when new requirements were identified, S&G met the challenge with combination padlocks (i.e. 8077), high-security padlocks (i.e. 951), and the 3-wheel mechanical (i.e., 2937) for field safes.  In terms of integrating mechanical safe locks for use on secure room doors, S&G’s SM50 and the HSED met certain needs at the time.  For SCIF lock electromechanical options offered during the past decade, the SM50 design was borrowed by other manufacturers (i.e., CDX-0) and then readopted in 2010 by S&G to create S&G’s 2890A Pedestrian Door Lock (now utilizing S&G’s 2740B lock, which is now approved by to GSA to FF-L-2740B for protecting GSA containers).  The drawback of the door versions of these high-security locks is clear:  no single motion egress, putting workers in SCIFs at risk in the event of a fire or emergency.  This dire situation motivated the collective military and national security agencies to create an updated specification, FF-L-2890B.

At Last:  Life Safety + High Security

Now, with S&G’s new offering, Fire Marshals and FSOs can agree on a solution satisfying their most critical demands.  Introducing the S&G 2890B SCIF Lock designed to the specification FF-L-2890B combining requirements for Life Safety with High-Security.  6 Types are offered including options for Panic Bar, Exit Lever, Rim Cylinder, and electronic Access Control integration.  And all 6 types are single motion egress devices and are 3-hour UL Fire Listed integrated with either GSA approved Combination Lock.

OK.  If there are 2 accepted high-security locks, which FF-L-2740B lock to choose then to use with S&G’s new life-safety device, 2890B?  Remember some simple math:   2 > 1.  Choosing the “Style 2” combination lock (S&G’s 10-year life battery-powered 2740B) includes these benefits:

-          No cables or tubes outside the door during installation.

-          No cranking to power, and Direct Dial to allow fastest opens

-          5-Year Warranty, and a 24/7 global emergency support line.

-          Lower price than the Style 1, foreign-owned alternative.
