In Memoriam: Steve Young

Feb. 4, 2025
Automotive locksmithing expert known for his passion for helping other locksmiths

All of us at Locksmith Ledger and throughout the locksmith community are sad to hear of the death of Steve Young, who passed away on Jan. 31 from unexpected complications after lung transplant surgery.

Steve was a pioneer in the world of automotive entry. His company Tech Train, which Lockmasters acquired in the early 2000s, invented the Jiffy Jak, several wire entry tools, and the invaluable Quick Reference Automotive Manual. Later, Steve opened his own business, AutoLock Solutions in Pensacola, Florida.

For decades, he has been a valued member of the Locksmith Ledger team and has contributed many excellent articles and shared his expertise with our readers and the locksmith community in general. His passion for helping locksmiths grow in their field was evident.

In his nomination for last year’s Legends of the Lock Industry award, fellow locksmith Donald Milton described him as a “stand-alone fountain of history, innovative changes, and current state of the art in automotive locksmithing and a good friend to locksmiths around the world.”

Our deepest sympathy to his wife Karen and extended family members.
