It’s with great sadness that Detex announces the passing of Gary Hackney at the age of 80. During his 31 years at Detex, Gary was a visible and significant contributor to the company’s success.
Gary started his career at Detex in 1986 as a sales manager and became director of marketing and sales in 1999. In 2000, he left the company to work as a Detex representative in the southeastern United States but rejoined the Detex team in 2001. He became channel sales manager in 2005 and distribution channel manager in 2011, and in 2017, he took on the responsibilities of marketing and sales coordinator. He retired from Detex on March 31, 2018.
Gary was a true gentleman who had a wealth of friends, not only at Detex but among the company’s representatives, distributors and customers. He was an Air Force veteran and was decidedly “old school.” Anyone who did business with Detex or with Gary personally knew that his word was his bond and his handshake was as good as any contract. He was well-respected for his knowledge of the security industry and the easy way in which he interacted with everyone.
Detex extends its heartfelt sympathy to Gary’s wife, Val, and his entire family. Gary’s passing is a monumental loss for those of us who knew and worked with him.
