To close out 2024, Locksmith Ledger released its annual State of the Industry report where we asked locksmiths for their thoughts on key topics around their business, including market and product areas where they are seeing the most growth, as well as technologies and trends they are most excited or concerned about. In this roundtable discussion we will delve into our findings, looking at current trends in the locking and access control world, such as the continued move to electronic access, the rise of smart locks and mobile access, new products, technology and services, finding the next generation of locksmiths, training opportunities in 2025, and much more!

Wayne Winton is the owner of Tri County Locksmith Service, a thriving business he has successfully operated for over a decade. As a seasoned locksmith, Wayne holds the Certified Registered Locksmith (CRL) and ACE Instructor (ACI) credentials from the Associated Locksmiths of America (ALOA). 
 
Currently serving as the ALOA Southwest Board Director, Wayne specializes in developing on-demand educational programs tailored to the locksmithing and security industry. His expertise focuses on safe opening techniques and electric access control installation, ensuring professionals are equipped with cutting-edge knowledge and skills. 
 
Wayne is dedicated to advancing the industry through high-quality education and training, combining his technical mastery with innovative instructional methods to empower the next generation of security experts. 

Glenn Younger
Owner
Grah Safe and Lock 

Glenn Younger, CML, CPP, is owner of San Diego, Calif.-based Grah Safe and Lock, and has worked in the security, access control and life safety field since 1974. In 1985, he joined Clark Security Products, and as a member of the Clark management team the company grew from a small regional distributor to be a national industry leader that was acquired by Anixter then Wesco.
  
In 2005, Younger purchased Grah Safe and Lock, which currently has several departments including installation, locksmith, supply and access control divisions. Younger is on advisory boards for the Calif. State Fire Marshall, Calif. Dept of Consumer Affairs - BSIS, Calif. Contractors State License Board, among others

Chad Lingafelt

Loc-Doc Security

In 2004, after switching careers from Radio Broadcasting, Chad took a chance on an opportunity in a new industry as a trainee technician with Loc-Doc, Inc. Over time, he developed a cloud-based work order and customer management system that cultivated a rapid growing environment at Loc-Doc. In 2012, after developing an operational structure, Chad entered into Partnership and has led and grown Loc-Doc to a team of over 40. His ideas and vision set the course we are on now of expansion! He continues to help his teammates develop and succeed independently in their roles with 1 on 1 mentoring and training sessions.
 
In 2018 he crafted & implemented our Core Values to be a guide for Loc-Doc team’s operation, started the Coffee Break Podcast, & launched local mobile service in Greenville, SC and the surrounding areas.

Chad has continued to teach other entrepreneurs how to scale their business and how to develop great culture through classes and education series. He’s also written several articles for the Locksmith Ledger on building sales, controlling inventory management, choosing the right software for your business, and been a guest on other podcasts where he’s weighed in on what installers want from manufacturers and other business practices.
