Summary

For the webinar, Upgrading to Electronic Access Control (EAC), we will look at strategies to convert entryways to the latest EAC systems. Speakers will look at where we are on the continuum that has moved from mechanical locks to stand-alone systems with an audit trail, to more sophisticated systems that are connected to other systems within a building, interfacing and integrating with fire safety/life safety systems, video surveillance systems (CCTV), communications systems, and non-security systems such as HVAC, for example. In an integrated system, EAC systems allow users to be granted access into various areas or limited areas, track and provide attendance records, and as a safety feature and for emergency response situations, determine where people are located within a facility.

Areas of focus include:

  • Types of access control systems that are available today.
  • Installation considerations and challenges.
  • Best strategies for converting entryways to EAC.
  • Top verticals and the types of end users that are early adopters.
  • Recurring revenue opportunities and challenges.

Daniel Hardwick
Vice President
AKL Solutions

Daniel is a second-generation locksmith, starting when he was 8 years old at his parent’s company, Austin’s Key & Lock. He had to stand on an MSC catalog to reach the key machine, and started helping in the shop cutting keys, pinning locks, and helping customers in the showroom.

In 2018, he took over as part owner and bought out my dad’s shares right before he passed in 2019. About that time the company moved to a newer, larger building and have been building the business ever since, adding employees and expanding into card access, surveillance, auto openers, fire door services, etc.

At the same time as the move, the company branded as AKL Solutions to try and help our customers understand we do so much more than just keys and locks. Today Daniel’s role is more business owner than locksmith, as I manage and make an effort to continue to grow our business, but I still go out in the field to troubleshoot and complete design surveys.
