These days, locksmiths generally do not turn down a service call if it involves a product they did not themselves install. As a matter of fact, market surveys reveal that unsuccessful DIYers are a growing market as they realize they have attempted to install and program a variety of security related products, and have bitten off more than they can chew. The phenomemon applies to mechanical and electronic locks, security systems and video surveillance products.
When you are servicing standalones, you may have to perform programming. The majority of service issues with standalones involves mechanical and hardware failures and loss of battery power. Even if the initial service issue is caused by one of the above causes, you will probably have to at least partially dismantle the device to adjust mechanisms or replace batteries. Then you may have to re-commission (re-program) the lock.
Our online guide addresses standalone locks, and will hopefully provide you with an easily accessible resource to obtain the product specs and programming steps you’ll need.
Some are products have been discontinued and are no longer sold, but you may encounter in your travels. The others are currently offered through professional locksmith distribution or through home centers.
