RoxProx Proximity Reader
Essex Electronics has introduced the RoxProx™, the proximity reader built for tough environments both outdoors and indoors. The RoxProx reads HID 125kHz proximity cards and fobs (up to 91 bits) with up to a two-inch read range. The stainless steel construction RoxProx is a weatherproof (IP66 Rated) and vandal resistant reader having the electronics encapsulated in epoxy. Salsbury Mail Boxes
The Salsbury pin tumbler mailbox locks have a key code series in the 20,000+ range. These locks have been around for more than five years. Key blanks or cut keys are not available.
Salsbury has introduced a new series of pin tumbler mailbox locks using the same key code series range. However, the bittings, key blank and depths and spaces are different. The code number is stamped onto the tailpiece of both code series locks.
The usable spaces and depths determined from a sampling of locks are:

New BHMA Standards
The Builders Hardware Manufacturers Association (BHMA) announces the publication of ANSI/BHMA A156.23 - 2010 American National Standard for Electromagnetic Locks and ANSI/BHMA A156.36 - 2010 American National Standard for Auxiliary Locks.
ANSI/BHMA Electromagnetic Locks A156.23 - 2010 standard establishes requirements for electromagnetic locks and includes cyclical, dynamic, operational, strength and finish tests. This is a revision of the 2004 standard.
The ANSI/BHMA Auxiliary Locks A156.36 – 2010 standard is now a standalone for auxiliary locks. Auxiliary locks were previously part of ANSI/BHMA A.156.5. The new standard establishes requirements for auxiliary locks including commercial and residential deadbolts and includes five classifications of tests: operational, cycle, strength, security and finishes plus dimensional criteria.

STRATTEC 2011 Catalog
STRATTEC has introduced the PDF version of their 2011 Comprehensive Catalog. This downloadable, 80-page resource contains a listing of automotive parts by manufacturer. Most of the key blanks, locks and components are illustrated, which is helpful when looking for an unknown part. Locks with cases are exploded out showing the keyway and the tumbler position. Most key blank photos include the logo, keyway description and if transponder equipped. For example, there are 42 General Motors key blank part numbers. The illustrations display the logo, keyway, transponder, remote head and emergency key blank. The eight GM wafer tumbler photos clarify the shape and simplify determining the necessary parts.
In addition to Chrysler, Ford and GM, STRATTEC has key blanks for Acura, Honda, Infiniti, Mazda, Mitsubishi and Nissan. Interesting Door Stop
The following two photos are from a medical facility that has double doors in the corridors. When one of the corridor doors is fully opened, it stopped against the lever handle of an electromechanical lock. The door provides access into a shower room.
Who Owns Email & Voicemail?
There are laws on the books regarding email and voicemail. E-mail and voicemail records for the most part are the property of the company or corporation and are most often (other than National Security) subject to discovery in litigation. Even if you delete an email, there almost always is a copy somewhere.

When you are programming a transponder equipped key blank and the vehicle battery is not fully charged, there is a good possibility the programming will not work.
To help solve this problem, if you have jumper cable or a jump box, disconnect the vehicle battery. When a jumper cable or box is connected, the vehicle and the weak battery will draw power. If the battery is disconnected, then only the vehicle electronic system will draw power.
Emtek E3 Key
The Emtek E3 key has been used on oval cylinders for storm doors, etc. The E3 key is no longer available. An aftermarket key blank that fits the oval cylinder I have is the Y52.
HIPAA Basics
Personally identifiable health information that specifically identifies an individual must be properly protected within a medical environment. The format of the information does not matter for the purpose of protection. It can include electronic, paper or oral. Anything associating a name with medical information.
The Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA) regulations protects the privacy and security of certain health information. To do this, the U. S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) published the Standards for Privacy of Individually Identifiable Health Information and The Security Standards for the Protection of Electronic Protected Health Information. The privacy standards establish protection of certain health information. The Security Standards protect certain health information that is held or transferred in an electronic form.
The purpose of HPAA was to create a nationwide set of standards. The Act was broadened including in 2003 to encompass the Privacy Rule.
The standard § 164.310(a)(1) Facility Access Controls is the first under the Physical Safeguards section in Facility Access Control. It requires covered entities to:
“Implement policies and procedures to limit physical access to its electronic information systems and the facility or facilities in which they are housed, while ensuring that properly authorized access is allowed.” A facility is defined in the rule as “the physical premises and the interior and exterior of a building(s)”.
For locksmiths, HIPAA requires Protected Health Information (PHI) and electronic Protected Health Information (ePHI) be secure and private.

CAR-OPENING TECHNIQUES : 2002-06 Acura RSX
This month we will offer recommended car opening techniques for the 2002-06 Acura RSX. These two door coupes are equipped with inside vertical lock control linkage rods.
CAUTION: These vehicles are equipped with multilayer weather stripping.
Important: Be sure to remove the wedge prior to bringing the car-opening tool into the passenger compartment. The additional stress that is placed onto the car-opening tool and the glass by the wedge(s) can result in the breaking of the glass.
Be very careful when you contact the lock buttons. Too much force can result in scratching or marring the button.
The following opening methods can be used to unlock the 2002-06 Acura RSX:
Use the Pro-Lok AO-35 “MCOT-Wide” tool and an inflatable wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Begin by inserting the inflatable wedge nineteen inches from the front edge of the passenger door window. Inflate the wedge according to manufacturer’s instructions.
A one inch separation between the handle length and the portion that enters the passenger compartment. The adjustment is necessary for the tip to contact the electric lock unlock button on the door panel.
Insert the AO-35 car0opening tool into the door sixteen inch from the front edge of the window with the tip facing forward. Lower the tool thirteen inches into the door cavity. Rotate the tool until the arch is on the passenger compartment side of the window glass. Deflate the wedge. Carefully lift the tool until the tip is in the passenger compartment. Work the tool forward three inches. Rotate the tool 45 degrees counterclockwise and manipulate the tip of the tool under the electric lock-unlock button. Carefully lift the tool to raise the button, unlocking the locking mechanism. Follow the manufacturers instructions for removing the car opening tool.
Use the Slide Lock Japanese Tool™ and a wedge to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the wedge forward of the outside door handle assembly. Insert the Japanese Tool between the wedge and the vertical locking button with the tip facing forward. Lower the car opening tool until the tip is beneath the window glass. Rotate the tool counterclockwise until the tip is facing towards the rear of the vehicle and on the passenger compartment side of the window glass. When the tip of the tool just appears through the weather stripping, remove the wedge. Carefully manipulate the car opening tool until the tip contacts the exposed portion of the vertical locking button. Carefully lift the tool to raise the vertical button, unlocking the locking mechanism. Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for removing the car-opening tool.
Use the Tech-Train Productions TT-1025 car-opening tool and two wedges to unlock the passenger door locking mechanism. Insert the two wedges eight inches apart just forward of the inside vertical locking button. Carefully insert the TT-1025 tool between the wedges into the door cavity with the tip pointing towards the rear of the vehicle. Lower the tool until the upper bend is beneath the bottom of the glass. Rotate the tool slightly having the bend on the interior side of the glass. Carefully raise the tool until it is just visible between the inside weather stripping and the glass. Stop immediately and remove the wedges. Note: Failure to remove the wedges can result is cracking or breaking the window glass.
After the wedges have been removed, slide the tool into the passenger compartment until the tip is visible. Manipulate the tool until the tip is against the thumb-notch in the locking button. With the tip pressed against the thumb-notch, carefully lift the car-opening tool in order to raise the button and unlock the door locking mechanism.
Follow the manufacturer’s instructions for removing the car opening tool.
The direction to rotate the 2002-06 Acura RSX passenger door lock plug to the unlocked position is counterclockwise.
