Jumpstart Your Automotive Work with the Smart Pro Lite

May 2, 2024

Based on the same hardware platform as the original Smart Pro, the Smart Pro Lite is a simplified programming device that operates without the need to purchase tokens, software, or a subscription. It exclusively programs Ilco transponder keys and Ilco Look-Alike remotes. Basically, a locksmith buys an Ilco transponder key or Look-Alike remote and then scans the QR code packaging to earn the token needed to program a key.

It is an ideal choice for locksmiths getting started in automotive or considering automotive because, if business takes off down the road, it can be upgraded to the regular Smart Pro.

The application list for Smart Pro Lite is built around vehicles supported by Ilco transponder keys and Look-Alike Remotes and comes with one year of free updates. It cannot be used for non-Ilco keys and remotes. If there is no Ilco transponder key or Look-Alike Remote for a specific application, that year, make, and model will not be supported by Smart Pro Lite.

Neither Smart Pro nor Smart Pro Lite use NASTF data, so they are not impacted by the upcoming scan tool validation program.

At the end of year 1, the Smart Pro Lite will require an affordable annual fee to receive any new vehicle application. The Annual Update Fee includes all new vehicle models added to Smart Pro Lite with the introduction of new Ilco transponder keys and Look-Alike Remotes. Without the update, customers can still use the tokens loaded from previous keys/remotes but cannot scan QR codes to add new tokens.

Smart Pro Lite operates with the same intuitive user interface as the traditional Smart Pro. The color touch screen guides the user through a simple step-by-step sequence for all the key programming functions and procedures. Interestingly, the Lite in the name refers to the functionality only; the size and weight are the same as the regular Smart Pro. Smart Pro Lite and Smart Pro are built on the same hardware platform.

There is an option to upgrade to the standard Smart Pro. Once upgraded, the device will operate as a standard Smart Pro with all Smart Pro capabilities.  The device will then require tokens, UTP, or software purchases to operate.

Starter kit includes:

  1. ·      OBD master cable
  2. ·      Main cable and charger
  3. ·      USB operating manual
  4. ·      Hard-body carrying case

Getting Started

The software is driven by MYKEYS Pro (MKP), the Advanced Diagnostics online key programming database with information for more than 5,000 vehicles, covering most makes and models worldwide.

The user interface is icon-driven and provides access to extensive functions like ECU identification, read & clear fault codes (manufacturer dependent), previously programmed vehicles, and much more.

The first step is to download the MYKEYS Pro app from the Apple Store or Google Play. When the app is activated for the first time, the user will need to create an account by following the prompts. After that, the user will enter his or her credentials to log in.

Through the MYKEYS Pro app, users scan the QR code on the packaging of the appropriate Ilco transponder key or Look-Alike remote. The app will give the user the option to convert the QR code into SmartPro Lite tokens or participate in the Ilco loyalty program. When tokens are selected, they will be added to the bank, based on the machine’s serial number. One QR code is the equivalent of one token.

Tokens can then be added to the Smart Pro Lite by going to the My Smart Pro icon on the device and adding tokens from the bank. This can also be done by connecting the Smart Pro Lite to a PC with the supplied USB cable and then connecting to AD Loader to download tokens.

The QR codes are not tied to a specific key or application. After you scan and load tokens, those tokens can be used on vehicles from any year, make and model in the Smart Pro Lite system. For example, you could scan the code on a Toyota key’s packaging and use it to program a fob for a Dodge vehicle.

Once the tokens are loaded into the Smart Pro Lite, you are ready to begin programming with the device. Make sure you are on WiFi, then connect to the car and select the vehicle’s make, model and year.
