Increase Cabinet Security with Keyless RegulatoR by CompX

Feb. 1, 2016
RegulatorR pushbutton cabinet locks can be installed easily on new or retrofit projects, making them an ideal solution for healthcare applications

Key-operated locks have been with us since Egyptian times and will remain in use long into the forseeable future. Most mechanical products of any kind have one thing in common; they are designed for a specific purpose. Any change in that purpose, such as changing the combination of the lock, requires either disassembly or use of some type of tool in order to make the change.

Customers today are expecting more features and simple usage in every product they purchase. CompX meets all of these expectations, and more, with their new electronic cabinet lock called RegulatoR. RegulatorR locks are designed for either new installations or for retrofitting existing cam locks. Installation requires one 3/4" hole to be drilled through the door or drawer.  Flats on the RegulatoR lock body allow installation in an existing double-D opening without modification. The lock body is threaded to accept a hex nut retainer. One additional 3/16" hole is required for the installation of a through bolt to hold the RegulatoR keypad in place. Installations can be made in either wood or metal materials.

Regulator push button cabinet locks can be installed on doors, drawers, lockers, file cabinets, office furniture or on retail display cabinets. RegulatorR cabinet locks are a perfect solution for meeting recent rulings affecting the securing of drugs in medical facilities.

The locks are available either with manual locking which requires the user to rotate the knob to relock the lock or with a self-locking SlamCAM. The self-locking version allows the user to close the door or drawer and the spring-loaded SlamCAM automatically relocks the cabinet with no need to return the knob to a locked position.

Installation flexibility is built-in. Available cylinder lengths include 7/16", 1 3/16" and 1 3/4". CompX has a full line of straight and offset cams to provide a positive fit between the cam and cabinet frame. A CompX FlexaCam spacer system is included.  Flexible adapters are furnished in dimensions of 1/16" to 3/16" lengths. The spacers fit into the furnished straight cam to provide a firm, positive fit between the cam and cabinet frame.

RegulatoR keyless cabinet locks are available in black, white or silver finishes. There are three different keypad configurations: left hand, right hand and vertical. Low power consumption extends battery life and provides 75,000 operation cycles.

A battery indicator shows when battery power is low. RegulatoR cabinet locks require two AAA batteries which are externally mounted into the keypad unit and are easily accessible when replacement finally becomes necessary. Annual replacement of both batteries at the same time is recommended. Both batteries should be the same brand since mixing batteries of different chemistries could damage the RegulatoR lock. A T-15 pin in head Torx screw retains the battery cover.

The key pad unit is 1.5" wide and 5.43" long. RegulatoR locks use a membrane keypad which is water resistant and easy to clean with a non-acid based cleaner and a cotton cloth.

Keypads contain 10 numbers 1-0. The factory default combination is 1234. Press each number once, then press the 'enter' key. If the correct combination has been pressed a green LED will be illuminated. If a red LED is illuminated this indicates an incorrect code entry. When the green LED is illuminated, the turn knob can then be rotated clockwise to move the cam to the unlocked position.

If the RegulatoR is a Manual Lock Version, the turn knob will remain in the unlocked position. Once the door or drawer is closed the manual lock knob can be turned counterclockwise to relock the cabinet. If the RegulatoR is a Self Lock Version, the turn knob will return to the locked position as soon as the turn knob is released by the user. As the door or drawer is closed the SlamCAM spring latch will automatically relock the cabinet.

RegulatoR keyless locks have one User code and one Superrvisor code. The Supervisor code is used for all programming functions. The factory default supervisor code is 12345. Primary programming functions include changing the User code, changing the Supervisor code, setting Single- Use codes, setting Timeout ON/OFF, setting Security Timeout ON/OFF and resetting User code to factory default.

Programming

A 10-second time limit is allowed between each programming step. If Regulator times out or an error is made, programming will end and the programming mode must be started again. The lock must be in the locked position prior to entering the programming mode. To enter the programming mode type the Supervisor code and press 'enter'. Rotate the knob to the unlocked position and press the 'enter' key for 3 seconds. The yellow light will illuminate indicating that the RegulatoR is in the programming mode. If the product is a Self Lock Version the turn knob can now be released.

Changing User Code: With RegulatoR in the programming mode press 1, then press 'enter'. Type the current User code, then press 'enter'. Type the new User code, then press 'enter'. Retype the new User code, then press 'enter'. If successful, the green light will illuminate for 1 second. Press 9, then press 'enter' to exit programming. (User codes must be between 4 and 8 digits in length).

Changing The Supervisor Code: With RegulatoR in the programming mode press 2, then press 'enter'. Type the current Supervisor code, then press 'enter'. Type the new Supervisor code, then press 'enter'. Retype the new Supervisor code, then press 'enter'. If successful, the green light will illuminate for 1 second. Press 9, then press 'enter' to exit programming. (Supervisor codes must be between 4 and 8 digits in length).

Setting Single Use Function: Single use mode allows for a revolving user code. An example might be at a health club where a locker is used for short time periods by several different people. The Single Use function provides a different code for each user without having to re-program the lock after each use.  The single use function cannot be used with Self Lock with SlamCAM.

With RegulatoR in the programming mode press 51, then press 'enter'. If successful, the green light will illuminate for 1 second. The single use function has now been set. Press 9, then press 'enter' to exit programming.

RegulatoR locks contain 20 memory slots. Slot 01 is reserved for the supervisor code. Slot 02 is reserved for the first User code. This feature allows for setting up a master system where people in authority can open more than one cabinet or locker while other persons can only unlock a specific RegulatoR lock.  Additional memory slots are also used when setting up a single function system where the code automatically changes after each usage.

Additional RegulatoR features include setting a Single Use Timeout which can be set for 4 to 12 hours. This feature prevents someone from using a locker or cabinet for an extended period of time. A Security Timeout feature can also be set which will disable the RegulatoR lock for five minutes after someone tries 5 invalid codes.
